I look at many of the rendering of light sources for interior looks scary :?
whether it is in version 1.0 final support IES?, the present result is no good ...
I understand that IES is a Fake light
but the answer to the customer, if he requires such a light.....( I'm sorry I can not)

you have to build the lamp, light bulp as physical elements, if you then have build it correct you will get the light cones you are looking for.
The only reason why most octane renders looks "weird" with emitters is because like you see in your own test, its just a ball with no lamp around it :)
So model your lamps and you are good to go.

I think you mean modeling :)

The rendering wont be slower, the dispersion of light will just look different and more pleasing.

However that said.

You Allways have the possibility to make an IES light pass in your favorite IES ready app and composit the pass into the Octane render.

I have made renders, both till and animation that included Both Octane and Brazil R/S as well as scanlines and Mental ray into one seamlessly intregration.
So its up to you as an artist to use the tools that works,provided that Octane currently doesnt support IES dispersion.

Radiance did agree on implementing IES in the future, as to when... maybe post-1.0 I don't know
