I can see that emitters are starting to come together, but one great trick I use with IBL in Max is to create Composite Maps and load several HDR images up in Addititive layers, and then I can independently rotate them around each other to get rapid and very controllable IBL that can be very similar to using light sources.

It would be a great addition to Octane to be able to stack up more than one HDR image, using additive blending, to do the same thing here. Until emitters can be moved in Octane it provides probably the only effective way to do any really precise lighting with Octane (can't be done to the same degree by going back and forth to Max etc).

Any chance of it?

One thing you can do is setup a pipeline that grants you very fast reflection previews in max, via mental ray for example. Do your tweak there like you normally do, Collapse the multi hdr to one map, ship scene + camera.

Yeah, that could be a workaround but it's cumbersome, and it still doesn't give you that final level of tweaking that I feel is essential for good lighting. The light needs to be adjusted and tweaked to the final camera and material setups, and you just can't get there without moving lights. It's not just reflections, it's also the way the diffuse reacts, and the bounce light etc.

Anyway, for mayn things/people that may be fine, but to me it's critical to have that control and see it in the final context - that is the main attraction to Octane for me. If I'm doing my lighting in Max might was well do my rendering there too ;)
