Hi Can someone please please explain to me how the gradient exture works??

I want to use the map to transition from one color to another..and also from one diffuse material to another glossy material, for example on a plane object...i tried to put the gradient texture on the amount and all sorts of things i could think of but does not work!! :evil: :oops: :(

I thing - gradient is not correct naming initially, it comes from standalone and there is nothing I can do.
It acts more like a map texture. You have to use gradient input to remap colors.

Well that's weird :(...

Anyway..if we wanna have a color or rgb map transition to another color or rgb map..than what would be the workflow?

Also when would we use use the current gradient texture then? I really dont understand it's use :(:(

To be honest I almost don't use gradient texture. Mostly with random color texture to generate random colors I need.

I understand...but in my case I dont wanna use random texture... I want to transition gradually from one tone/texture to another...for example on hair from root to tip..or on leaves...etc.

Just make this gradient in Photoshop as regular texture.

Brilliant.
Has there been any progress on this groundbreaking request to have a gradient map?

I realized I'm unbelievably late, but I have the answer :O

What I did was take a standard texture (or whatever you want) and apply a Greyscale to the diffuse, in the Greyscale I took the "Texture" option and applied the "Gradient ramp" to it, that gave me the ramp i wanted.

Now, make sure that if you have any deformation to your UV that you either unwrap them or just apply the UVW map to it, and that worked for me.

@Omegauser9

Can you explain that better? I did not understand...or perhaps share a sample with the setup you mentioned?
