Thanks for reporting the issue with PhoenixFD. There is indeed a bug in the volume rendering.
That also affect the Octane Volume objects, using VDB files.
A temporary work-around is to add a render pass, for example, add a Diffuse pass in Render settings / Render Element ..
A fix is being working on for the next release.
