Hi all,
I have a question regarding the colors of x-particles in octane. I'm using a plane with a texture as emitting source in x-particles. So all the particles that are emitting are getting the colors of this texture. I use an octane tag on the x-particles emitter, and a sphere as particle that i drag into the particle field in the octane tag. If I want these to render in octane, I use the instance color node on the diffuse channel and emission channel of my 'octane particle' material. In that instance-color node i select my emitter as a source. So far so good. the particles rendering fine with the color of the texture in octane.
What I want to do is making trails with a x-particle trail generator, so that these trails get the same color from each particle. So i put an octane tag on the trail generator and render them as hairs. Then i put the same material with the instance-color node on the trails. Now If I render, all hairs have the same color, and the instance color doesnt do anything. Am I doing something wrong here? Anyone has a solution for this?
See my scene file in attachment.
Thx in advance!
J

Did you checked sample scene for xp trails? It's under tutorials section.

I am having exactly the same issue with X-Particles. The trails have all the same color and they don't inherit the color from particle.
I had a look in sample scenes but there is only explained how to add random color.
Is there a way how to do it ?

unfortunately its not possible for any 3rd party renderer to inherit the leading particle color for the trail due to the INSYDIUM API. Ive asked them about it a few times but was greeted with silence, since obviously they try to push Cycles. perhaps if more of us can be more vocal something will change eventually
I don't know ANY API as you said. And it's not an Otoy job. Plugin is 3rd party development.phil_w wrote:The API now has access to these attributes. Not tried it in Octane, but have been successful in another renderer, so I'm sure Otoy must have implemented the link too.
