Arealights are coming in the next version, beta 2.3.
SSS / volumetrics is not planned for our v1.0, and will be for the 2.0 version coming later towards the end of this year.

So if we buy into the current beta, which is already the release of 1.xx (as I understood from another member of the team) we will have to pay again later this year to get 2.0.

I previously assumed 1.xx would last us longer. I don´t mind paying for a good renderer but if this the case it would be very helpful to know how much the upgrade to 2.x would be. If it will be there in a few months already I would to know the total budget needed to get on board.

Hi,

That's not correct at all, 1.0 will be out before the end of the year, and then we'll have 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc, and 2.0 is still far off.
You really won't find a better deal, and you'll be happy next year still with your purchase.
You don't have to believe me, but you will see next year for yourself :)

Hi Radiance,

I completely believe you as you will know :)

However there seems some contradictions in the two statements from you.

"SSS / volumetrics is not planned for our v1.0, and will be for the 2.0 version coming later towards the end of this year."

"2.0 is still far off"

You understand my confusion?

well, I think the statement is accurate, in "octane years" the end of the year is quite far off, it's incredible the speed at which octane grows and improves :D

I agree, this is somewhat a contradiction, could you clarify this please. Will version 2 be expected sometime next year or before 2011? Not only with regards to the SSS implementation but also for how long we can expect to wait before paying to upgrade to version 2.0.

i can't make any promises as you all know GPU development is not as linear as CPU development, some things are quicker/easier to build and other things are really difficult.

I think you should'nt worry about any upgrades with the current 99 euro beta license to 2.0 for the next 4-6 months at least.

6 months? Please release 2.0 on my birthday in March :D
I guess for now I'll have to stick to environmental and interior renders until SSS, though.
