Houdini 16.5 load error - file intended for different ver.

Hello,

I'm having the install issue with Houdini. I haven't used Octane for a while now, just installed H 16.5.405 and edited houdini.env file and pointed to 3.08 version for 405 but still I get an error on start. All icons are visible inside of Houdini, but none of them work. (attached, erro and env file screenshot)

I looked up some previous posts, and followed advice there, but doesn't seem to work for me.

I would appreciate any advice on this issue. Thank you!

Hi,

It seems that there is a problem loading the plugin. dll file. Do you know if the 3.08 RC1 standalone works fine on this system? Perhaps your drivers are outdated for this Octane version.

If the Standalone works fine, please let me know to further investigate what could be the problem.

Thank you for the reply.

I actually didn't have standalone installed. I installed it, but didn't help with Houdini issue and standalone cannot launch due to certificate issue.

I also updated Nvidia drivers to latest version, but that didn't resolve the problem.

Hmm, I don't know what is this issue with the digital signature in the Standalone, I had not seen it before, but perhaps the problem with the plugin is that somehow the system doesn't want to load it due to the same issue.

Can you please try to download the just-released 3.08 RC2 standalone to see if you have the same problem? Really we need to know if the Standalone works fine on your system before trying to find the problem with the plugin.

I installed RC2 but I get the same signature issue.

I booted my windows with disabled driver signature enforcement and both standalone and Houdini plugin work just fine.

Not sure why my system cannot identify the signature. If I check octane.exe file, the digital signature is OK.

Also 3.06 with Houdini 15.5 worked fine few months back (if this is any helpful) and when I run 3.06 standalone now it still works with no issues.

Yes, I'm not sure what's going on with this signature issue, but in any case, I'm glad that finally your problem has been resolved.

Hi,

Just adding a final comment here in case someone will come across the same issue: I just needed to run Windows Update and install all updates from the Important list.

Now Octane works fine (both standalone and Houdini plugin) without need to disable digital signatures.
