Set the resolution to 4 x 4(denoiser usage will be less than 10 MB) in the film settings node and then enable denoiser. We do handle when denoiser can't allocate memory, so ideally it shouldn't be crashing but just logs an error message.
nope, still crashing yet.

Just to be sure, this version does NOT come with Brigade, right?

Am I the only one that is having WAY WORSE performance with 4.0 than 3.08? Like.. 4.0 is waaay slower. What the heck? :?

HI So Does denoiser make your image more blurry and you loose details unlike traditional rendering? THanks

I am going to back you on this. I can confirm slower rendering speeds on a 1 to 1 comparison between 3.08 and 4 XB1.
But I already know what this is, and the end, it will be this - you now have more options to work the renderer to your advantage.

Remember when it was said V3 is faster than V2 in speed comparisons, and in practice it really wasn't?
And then it was later then more understood that under certain circumstances it can score higher?....
But yet V2 was always outright, in raw terms, faster.

This is the same thing, it is a 'certain circumstance' faster rendering solution. On preface, using denoiser in 4 XB1, I am seeing in scene after scene, it is actually slower when rendered vs 3.08 .
But, here is the thing...you have to eye-ball the render because you don't need as many samples to get the job done with the denoiser. So, even if slightly slower, theoretically if you can cut the actual render time in half, then net 4 XB1 can be faster.

BUT here is the caveat....
Some scenes are well-suited for the denoiser, and other ones are not, so it's not a universal advantage. Again, it is more a situational thing.
ie - I have a busy gritty scene that has crazy PIA pixelation
If I measure raw render time, and viewport navigation speed, it is better in 3.08 hands down. Smoother, faster, etc.
But, 4 XB1, in this situation for me, can render a similar looking image in 1/3 the samples with the denoiser, and that equals then 1/3 the time. In fact, I have a scene where I only needed 200 s/px, to match a render that took, in 3.08, 2,000 s/px. That is a 'virtual' 10x boost!

However, then, I have another scene, with a timeline animation, which renders 6 seconds per-frame for 500 s/px in 3.08, and 8 seconds per-frame in 4 XB1.
So use the denoiser, right?
Well, denoiser doesn't really make a difference because the pixelation is not too prominent anyway. So net, over the 900 frames, 3.08 is faster.

I think we will find there will be some situations where denoiser does nothing to help (less grainy textures in scene), and then other scenes where it will do a lot to help (more grainy textures). So it will be a situational thing.

Speed test. 4.0 is almost 50% slower than 3.08..... :(

I have now suffered 3 crashed trying to use Octane 4 EX1. It doesn't matter what I seem to do in it, but it seems that the program will crash one way or the other just by using it. Not simply crashing Octane but by freezing the computer and having the screen go black and the computer remain inoperable.

Testing the scenes again in 3.08 and 3.06.4 causes no ill effects and works as expected. as mentioned in previous post screen update time and render times both are slower by about 50 or more.

I running this on Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, with a 1070 and 2 series 9 GTX titans. I'm also running with the most up to date Diver version from Nvidia : 391.01

What could be causing this? In this state the software is unusable.... And I really want to try out the Denoiser and AI Lighting

I got the very same question: may we expect to have brigade working inside Octane and its respective plugins (C4D, MAX,...)?? Or brigade will be stricted to Unreal and Unity?
Maybe I missed the point or didnt fully understand...
So far no crashes ( 3.08 C4D scenes), denoiser is really cool... not as fast with 50 samples as the video example but still very nice.
Cheers!!
