Hello all,
I would like to know if I purchase Octane now, if object emitter it's already in the beta version and how cost the final released will cost me ( I know that beta is 99$ but the final released will be 2 if I purchase beta now ) ?
Other question, do you planed to add subsurface scattering in Octane ?
And the last question, the bridge between maya and octane is it easier and flexible ( as no remade all if I just modified an object or want to move an area light or something like that ) ?
thank you in advance
Matthieu
ps : your product is really good

I have similar questions...I just tried the demo at home, and I would buy into it if SSS and area lights would be implemented.
Could you give us an estimate about the sss? I have seen, that the area lights are already there, and will be released soon.
Another thing I'd like to know :
I have a quadro5800 at home and I managed to load in around 19mill polygons into a scene ( 1 object ), however, the loading took very long time. If I import an animation from maya or SI, the rendertime will be multiplied, because based on the videos octane seems to load everything again for each frame. Can this be speeded up with displacement maps or some other way? Are you planning to implement displacement maps, and if so, is it going to be based on subdivisions, or micropolys or something else?
thanks,
balazs

Hello,
Just a last question, if I buy octane, and in few time I'm changing my computer ? Need I redeem a new license or not ? Or I just need to ask a new license file ?
Thanks,
It's my last question before purchasing.

You can request a new key every month up to 3 times, then we will examine your application and decide on a personal basis.

Thank you for the answer,
Don't worry it's just when I'll change my computer, normaly during this summer, it's just for one time.
Thank again,

So if we buy into the current beta, which is already the release of 1.xx (as I understood from another member of the team) we will have to pay again later this year to get 2.0.radiance wrote:Hey,
Arealights are coming in the next version, beta 2.3.
SSS / volumetrics is not planned for our v1.0, and will be for the 2.0 version coming later towards the end of this year.

I previously assumed 1.xx would last us longer. I don´t mind paying for a good renderer but if this the case it would be very helpful to know how much the upgrade to 2.x would be. If it will be there in a few months already I would to know the total budget needed to get on board.

We don't have a roadmap that detailed.
But think of it: you now have the opportunity to get the software at 99 euros. When it comes out of beta, you will need 199. Who knows what 2.x will cost ?
Buying now will *anyways* save you money compared to waiting for 2.0.
