Just saw this article, http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/201 ... /hdr-video and wondered if something like this could be scripted for Photoshop for our output from Octane. Or even better to be able to do this oversampling and combining internally in hopes of knocking out some of the fireflies?

Well, as you can see in the "preview imager" options, octane doesn't render in 8bit color space, but you can tonemap it without re-rendering.
So once it can can save files with more "depth" (eg. exr), you will be able to create a tone-mapped HDRI effect in ps easily.
To reduce noise and fireflies however you would need to render the image a second time, but I believe there are more efficient methods to get rid of them.
I personally however got to say that I am not really amazed by HDR video you posted - but I don't like most HDRIs either.

yeah all thats needed is float output from octane and you can do the exact same thing.. the only reason the hdr trick is nice in this case is it's in video form. Video is notorious for clipping anything so its nice to see a few tricks to t areras that.. (theres one with a couple of RED cameras that uses a stereo rig with no IO setup that does AMAZING video:
