Hi all,

As most of you know when we announced the internet connection required 'octanelive' service to customers,
we did this on the private customer only forums.

Since we could not explain what octanelive was then (as to give a headstart for our competitors),
a lot of people misinterpreted as a simple DRM system that takes away paying customers freedom.

since july piracy has been rampant for octane (2.2 as 2.3 is not crackable anymore, for various reasons i cannot disclose),
So our sales went down drastically.

More sales = more competitions with better prizes, and more developers = more features faster.

OctaneLive will save us in the long term, no more piracy.
But, many people who initially thought it was a evil move of us to deny there comfort with aggressive DRM, while it was just speculation,
a lot of people like octanelive now, and it's only in it's infancy, you've only seen a sneak peek of what will come soon.

Drag instanced grsss and trees onto your model, add your friends GPUs for a final by just clicking and seeing the samples/px go up, or our GPU cluster (with NO memory limitations at all). and something that will make you believe it cannot be true when we announce it soon.

The web is plastered with forum topics of disgruntled people, who made the posts during the hot debate announcement of octanelive, thinking it was a DRM system that would take away flexibility and freedom of paying customers and would have been hacked anyway.
Some even try to convince not to buy octane anymore.

I'd appreciate if any people at all who use octanelive and like it already or see the power behind it coming, for they're commercial works already with the latest releases,
would help us out (while we work on 2.3 v5, and google/find them and present your point of view, as a customer and artist.

This would really hwlp us out and give us more time to relax after 12 hour long working days.

Yours,
Radiance

Well I think the fall off in sales may be partly due to the fact thats been a while since there was something new for non licensed customers to play with or new stuff to publicise.
Really I think you should update the demo version come pre2.3v5. It ought to be stable enough.
Also I think Philbo could do a short video showing the actuation/moving license process, and OctaneLiveDB in action, so that people can see it isnt an issue in practice and has much potential to extend the functionality for the users benefit.
Moving pictures are worth 100,000 words.
I also think it would help if there was a video discussing hardware set ups for Octane so people can get aboard the bandwagon in a user friendly way.

Hi Radiance,

as I was one of the harsh critics in the fist discussions I must say that refractive restored my trust in them with what I saw up to now. So no more complaints about this beeing a step that is useless. I think the whole live thing will be very good. This said I have to plave a big BUT: Although i am in the comfortable situation with a very fast internet connection, this connection is very unstable. I had 2 major breaks of connection of 20 minutes each over the weakend alone. In November I will move to a new working place with my company where I was told the connection is even less stable. While I think I will continue to use Octane for short private projects, I can not see Octane as our major rendering solution (which is what I would like to do - buying a few more licenses) simply because we can not hold our deadlines if we come to work in the morning and see that the render of an animation stopped early in the night because of a network problem. No interest in comimg up with another negative discussion, just said as it is for my company. Maybe some day there will be a solution to use Octane again without a permanent connection.

This said, just a few final words: A killer software with developers working their buts off, I would realy like to use it in production, realy realy like it. Please think of something. I think you can up with something clever to solve this issue.

Best Regards

Sven

time is what you need !
you r on the right track...dont worry !
Finish Final ver and then you will be able to compete in profesional world. MAke videos how to work in octane, tutorials, compare octane to others etc etc. There are still a lot of work for you.

Some users think that software must work like they want and if program dont folow their philosphy they will say its not good - that normal too :)

Even my frineds who dont work with CG when i show them Octane they sad ITS the Best !

Rad, you need only more time ! Ideas behind Octane is so great, its like a long time waited revolution.
I like Octane live, i like it from first announce and it will be THE MOST POWERFULL THING. If we r able to excange materials, add your friends GPUs ( this is SO POWERFULL OPTION, that i decided now to invest in octane 2.0) your GPU closter (pros will be able to finish they work in no time) etc etc etc

Octane is simply great and your ideas are even better and i belive that you will become standard just keep up and dont give up !

I will suport you with my money !
Respect !

I would like to add.Great Product.May i make a suggestion. How about making the software log on and check with the server once every hour or so instead on continually online. This should result in people with a bad connection still being able to use it.

Hi,

It checks every 5 seconds with a ping. this is just to see if the connection is still there, if not, the green 'connected' will turn to 'disconnected',
in the bottom right corner. This is very important so you KNOW you're connection is lost.

It does'nt matter if you lose your connection. You can continue to work as long as you want, after (but only after you've started your render engine) and your connection is lost.
But you cannot access livedb content or edit your preferences.

You can access livedb content and preferences once the red 'disconnected' turns to a green 'connected' again.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the answers and suggestions, but i've got only one simple reply,
we're working very hard on getting to beta 2.3 final with the new unnamed algorithm some people started calling 'RLT'.
We do not have any time to do those things right now.

So we simply need you guys to solve this for us, if you want to do it for us, and the idea i presented would be the quickest and easiest thing to ask, i think.

Radiance

Thanks for the heads up.

Adding GPU's remotely sounds great. I have a Xpander box @ the home office and @ the work office. Will I be able to use them together remotely?
That got me thinking if it was possible to do some of service that enables people to offer their GPU's to a paid octane render service. For instance I could "add" my xpander boxes to the OctaneLive service and then I get paid for people using them to render in Octane. Just a pipe dream, just thought I would ask.
