Hi everyone,

Refractive Software LTD is proud to announce the availability of the fourth intermediate octanelive platform testing release. (aka pre-2.3 v4)
This release is for PC's running MS Windows (x64 and win32), linux (x64) and Mac OS X (32)

We recommend professional users to use the 2.2b version for now, however as of now we recommend to evaluate this release for light commercial use without tight deadlines.

Note that this release is one of the first octanelive platform builds, and we have not fully finished the server backend network, so there is currently no redundancy, only one server is active, so there might be outages while we work on it.
This release is therefore NOT recommended to be used for any professional applications where time is crucial,
use at your own risk.

Pleas note also this version will need you to enter your OctaneLive account and password. These can be found as explained here:
http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... =24&t=3095

New Features and fixes since Pre23_3

Code: Select all

This is just a platform update with one renderer firefly bugfix against the previous Pre23_3.

- The firefly issue with bump mapping is solved. It has a major impact on removing fireflies in scenes with heavy bump maps.

- Linux and Mac version included
- Linux users must use Cuda 3.0 and latest drivers to ensure stability.
- Mac users should have not have to make any changes to cuda installations with regards to the 2.2b release.

New Features and fixes since Pre23_2

Code: Select all

- improvements to the glass material, less fireflies and faster convergence (eg less noise on glass objects),
this is not a minor change, but it is very noticeable.
- Improvements to area lights/emitters, bug fixes, optimization and improved stability.
also, reflection of area lights on specular or glossy materials is fixed.
- Normalized blackbody spectrum option (enabled by default), all blackbody temperatures give the same power if enabled.
- New film filter, for anti-aliasing, which can be configured in the render kernel options.
 It replaces the supersampling concept.
- Subsampling filter to give a less blocky appearance while navigating with subsampling enabled.

- multi-gpu and non-power of two tearing/artifacts fixed.
- image saving to file fixed.
- diffuse transmission is fixed.
- all preference panel custom interface controls are fully working.
- plugin/export crash bug is fixed
- sunsky lightsource power parameter bug fixed.
- many other small improvements and bugfixes.

How to connect to OctaneLive through a firewall/router

If you have a firewall/router, and you cannot log into the octanelive service (eg, the server cannot be contacted), configure your firewall or router to allow outbound connections to the URL named 'live1.refractivesoftware.com'.

The error occurs when using cuda 3.1. I'm back to 3.0 as radiance indicated and works well, I can use my gtx470 :-)

And Andrian, you can temporarely go in the preferences and tick 'invert' for the zoom. That will get you to the 'default' behavior.
