Driving index channel with image

Hi Octane pros ...

I've been asking myself a philosophical question about the index channel ...

Is there a way to drive it with a jpeg or other image like we do with specular or roughness ?
If not, is there a specific reason about that ?
And if not is there a chance it may be implemented in the near future ?

Hi rmara,
the index value has been just enhanced in v3.08 for the new Metal material shader:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=63219
Currently is still not possible to use an image to drive the Index channel.
