Hey guys, I'm trying to find a way to use the random color node to drive more than the usual Diffuse/Roughness/Spec settings. I'm trying to fake random displacement by mixing noise randomly, but it does not work as I would expect. This node structure seems simple and like it should work, but for some reason I am only getting variance in my diffuse, spec, and roughness channels. Please take a look and give me your guess as to why no displacement is occurring. (And yes, I am using a sufficient value in the displacement amount)
This could be impossible, which would explain why I've never seen this technique being used.

Hey,
did you try with a baking node before the displacement node?

did you try with a baking node before the displacement node?

Hey, thanks for the reply.
You're definitely onto something there, but there is still an issue with the way the displacement is mapped. I cannot get the displacement to show up in UVW Projection, it has to be something like cubic, frontal, shrink wrap, etc. All of these modes handle the randomness incorrectly. For instance, with cubic, each facet of my cloned object ends up with the preview swatch for the random color node instead of just one instance of the randomness. See image to understand what I mean. I have simplified my node structure a little bit since last time for testing purposes.
