Hey, I have a question please do we need to download the latest octane Standalone too and then update the plugin or can we just download the latest plugin and leave the Standalone version because I never use the Octane Standalone just the Octane plugin for c4d and want to know if it's necessary to install the Standalone on the pc too in order to use all octane for c4d features ?
Hi nexusdesigns,
you can use c4doctane without installing Standalone, but my suggestion is to always install Standalone on each machine.
During installation, some Windows settings are changed to avoid the GPU timeout, and it is always better to firstly export the scene from c4doctane to Standalone, before sending the scene to ORC for cloud rendering.
If ithe scene works in Standalone, it will work also on ORC.

So we can have only the c4doctane without standalone?bepeg4d wrote:Hi nexusdesigns,

Im asking this cause i dont use standalone, as i never used any standalone from other render engines (why to buy the plugin then).
Though here i have to pay standalone for each slave and i m completely missing the point. I was told sometime ago in fb group that without the standalone octane plugins dont work, therefore u pay standalone even if u never touch it and even if u never use ur machine as WS. This makes no sense and discouraged me to get render nodes and expand my render farm.
So besides my surprise that c4doctane can be used without standalone i have another question; why do i have to pay the full WS price for render nodes?
thanks
Hi thanulee,
yes correct, OctaneRender is different from any other render engine you have used, also in the licence scheme.
When you purchase a Combo license, you get OctaneRender, and a plugin built using its SDK.
The integrated plugin must to be considered as a bridge that exposes the OctaneRender features inside the host application, offering the best workflow possible. So plugin without OctaneRender SDK is useless.
Regarding c4doctane, you pay Otoy for OctaneRender SDK, and Ahmet for creating the best possible integration inside Maxon C4D.
There are more than 20 integrated plugins, and most of them are developed by external programmers.
For Network rendering, you need only a Standalone license for each Slave, while the Combo license is needed only for the Master.
Happy rendering,

Thanks i know all these already but frankly and respectively, Otoys financial policy doesnt and shouldnt concern its customers.
Standalone shouldnt be considered a node in any scenario, since someone can use it to produce shaders and not just a "dumb" render helper. Also, standalone is the most expensive part of the octane renderer. And nodes are supposed to be the cheapest part of any engine.
Make real nodes, without any other functionalities, sell em at proper pricing. Its a fair request. Consider it, pass along the request, its a win win situation for both of us
In any case, thanks for the reply,

Hi thanulee,
Slave nodes pricing is a different story, and yes, currently there is not a specific render node apllication, and the complete Standalone is used instead.
I have seen that you have already posted your request in the correct place:

so the team is already aware of your request, and will be taken into account in future.
Happy GPU Rendering,
