Hi,

I am trying to recreate the lighting on this orb and hence am trying to get those fuzzy lights happening. See how the hot spot centre of the light is nice bright and around the edges they turn fuzzy/glowy like volumetric falloff.

I would really appreciate some advice on whether achieving that soft fuzzy glowy light can be done as a property of the light, as the reflections in the ball seem sharp for close objects so it would be best not to simply make the ball material blurry.

Could it be one of these approaches:

1 - a light property/glow switch?

2- - adding fog between the light and ball

3 - making the ball texture inherently blurred so the light looks soft.

You can try blending two glossy materials, one with high roughness and one with very sharp reflections

Thanks Phantom, and you're suggesting that material be used for the blue sphere?

I got this result using standard render in C4D, so it seems maybe I'm best to stay outside of Octane for this one.

I just thought spreading/diffusing an Octane light source would be straightforward, but I haven't used Octane a great deal as yet.
