We don't have support for 2.0 yet, we are hoping that they bring out a 2.1 soon or something similar with support for vertex animation so that we can do one big upgrade. The problem is that upgrading to 2.0 breaks support for 1.0, so ideally we would wait until there is a solid widely adopted gltf spec.

I tested FBX import very quickly and found one major issue that is replicated on both Mac and PC builds.

If "Edit Settings before loading new geometry" is checked in preferences, Octane crashes as soon as one clicks the OK button of the import settings dialouge box.

However, if that import preference is unchecked, FBX files load fine without Octane crashing.

Other anomalies I found when exporting a box primitive with a simple XYZ animation:

Such file exported from Blender as FBX will load into Octane with animation slider but, as Rikk The Gaijin observed, geometry seems very rough - not smoothed. Applying subdivision seems not to work.

Exporting from Cheetah 3d on Mac (as FBX version 7.50) gave opposite results. Geo came in normal and smoothed but sans Timeline.

Another issue with preferences I just noticed (on Mac at least) is that changes made to FBX import do not stick. If you change import parameters for FBX, click ok, and then open up the preferences dialogue box again, you will see the settings back at default for FBX.

Thanks for finding it. We will fix it in next release. Sorry

Same issue. I used the glTF Blender exporter from the Khronos Group available here:
https://github.com/KhronosGroup/glTF-Blender-Exporter

At the moment I don't know anywhere else I can load and test the glTF file exported from Blender so I'm not sure if the issue lies there or with Octane.
Attached is the file (a simple cube animation) if that is of any help.

My big problem with FBX is it a very finicky format. We have had endless trouble with it over the years, and we normally have to stick to particular versions in projects depending on whether they are animation heavy and which program they get exported out of.

Its one for the reasons that we moved to an alembic based workflow. At the very least the animation exported out was always rock solid. While I am very keen to see if glTF measures up I really hope that alembic development isnt sidelined. Would be great to get USD (I know Jules has said there are some issues with endless loops been possible) / MaterialX support going forward.

All in all though a very exciting release. Great job guys !
