A. Operating System, including version (i.e. Win 7, OSX 10.11.2, Ubuntu 14.04, etc.)
B. Graphics Card(s) model (i.e. GTX 580 - 3GB, TITAN, etc.)
C. RAM Capacity (i.e. 6 GB)
D. Nvidia driver version (i.e. 7.50, 7.5.22)
E. OctaneRender Standalone version, if installed (i.e. 2.24.2, 2.23, etc.)
F. OctaneRender plugin version (i.e. v2.25 - 2.21)

Hello,

Softwares & OS:
Mac OS X (Sierra)
Blender 2.78a
OctaneRender for Blender 11.24
OctaneRender Standalone 3.06.4

System:
MacBook Pro with Retina Display mid-2012
GeForce 640MB with 1GB VRAM
16GB RAM

In Blender, I activate Octane's Out of Core with 4GB system memory with 300mb overhead. It doesn't want to render until I decimate all the meshes to total of 340k triangle counts in a scene with considerable amount of textures.

Does that mean I can only render if the meshes can fully fit in VRAM first then use remaining VRAM and OOC for texture files?

Tested with OctaneRender Standalone:

I imported 4 meshes - each at 350k to 600k triangle counts. It can render no problem with 1.6 million triangles and high resolution textures. OOC at 500MB.

You are correct, out-of-core applies to textures, however your meshes should fit in GPU memory:

Ah! Got it. It looks like Blender occupies more VRAM than OctaneRender Standalone. Any tip how I can savage more VRAM space for Octane plugin?

I'm changing GPU Headroom from default 300MB to 600MB in OOC setting in Blender (I have 1GB VRAM). Am I doing it correctly?

Thanks!

1GB is pretty low especially if you work in Blender not Standalone. Have in mind that system is also taking some memory so yo do not have whole 1GB to use.
You can change headroom to any value if you want. Start with 0 and check if it helps.

You may also try launching Blender render job from terminal without the GUI. This may help saving some memory for Octane.
