Are the native modo Portals converted on the fly by the plug-in?
Or do I need to make a flat plane, assign a material to it and change it to a 'portal' material in the Schematic?

I'm asking this because, honestly I tried both of these techniques and I can't say I see any difference between using a portal and not using one at all.

I have a small room with a small window opening and I'm using an HDR Environemnt and the scene is super dark and takes ages to render noise-free.
I have very little expreiance with arch-viz so maybe I'm missing something here?

Or is this normal that interior scenes take a lot, lot longer to render than, lets say, product shots?

Thanks

The plugin will not convert Modo portals to Octane portal on-the-fly (but it could do so if there was sufficient need). Check the tutorials on portals at viewforum.php?f=51 to get a better understanding of how they work.

If the dark areas are noisy, reduce the Path Termination Power (as per the info in my signature), and turn on Adaptive Sampling.

Thanks Paul.

I also found this:

maybe someone will find this usefull. It's for Cinema but Octane tweaking is pretty much the same.
