Today Jules directed me to view the 3.08 roadmap.
Cannot find it anywhere, after a lot of time searching.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction please?

Thank you,

Perry

It's been discussed in other posts - but at a high level OSL shaders ( can create completely new procedural map, noise and texture nodes), and a revamp of the material system: new BRDF options, toon shading, metalicity workflow support and anisotropic controls among others.

Zoinks! Sorry Perry. I hadn't realized that was your very first post, after owning Octane almost 3 years... had I caught that, I would have posted something much less asinine, for sure. Welcome to Octane. I for one am curious though; has your Octane just been collecting dust all this time?

No, I have been using it in production.
It has been working great, so I really haven't needed to spend any time on the forums.

I had asked Jules this morning via Twitter if the rumor was true that Otoy was not interested/focused on making
Octane into a more production ready renderer, since I had been hearing rumors to that effect recently.

Most of it 3rd hand information, though.

He immediately said it was false, and pointed to the release of 3.07 as proof of listening to 3.06 user requests
for C4D and also suggested I look at the 3.08 roadmap.

Hence my posting when I couldn't, in fact, find that roadmap.

Rather than post another Twitter question to him, I figured I would ask around here so I could look
at it myself. But if it doesn't exist, that is another story...

Hmmmm... Curious, as Jules specifically mentioned that I should look at the roadmap.
So it has only been discussed at a high level, there isn't a document (or some slides, as there were for 3.07) outlining the features?

Thanks, this is important and I appreciate your help.

3.07 has a detailed breakdown here:

viewtopic.php?f=33&t=62395

You can check out examples of Octane OSL system in the GTC17 slides posted on the forums and on the FB group - all those OSL examples (e.g Vray Flakes, AL shaders, etc.) and more will be in 3.08, and will have a huge impact on C4D.

OK, thank you for the clarification.

So there is no official (released) 3.08 roadmap it seems, but I will glean the details from the slides.

Well, considering Maya plugin users were basically told we will be getting NO support for our plugin for "months" (no bug fixes or anything), while they "refactor the plugin", and gave us no release window at all, I would say in many instances Octane is most definitely not production ready. Last time they "refactored the plugin" for 3.0 it took nearly a year for us to get a plugin that was anywhere near usable. I'm sure OTOY will try to say differently, but as a user of the Octane Maya plugin, that's the reality of Octane for us.

As for Octane itself, they announced, over a year ago, that v4.0 would be released by now. Currently we're on v3.07 over a year later.... BUUUUUUT they have released Octane for Unity and plenty of VR capability (wheeeee  ). So regardless of what Jules says, "the proof is in the pudding" as they say, in regards to how production ready Octane is.

Honestly, I would leave Octane in a heartbeat if it were that easy. 2 years ago, I would've said differently, but things have changed with the OTOY in that time.

I heard the same.
im not a maya user, but i think if otoy ignor maya user, octane will be lost one of his professional user parts.

And yes....i think Jules Should not call a date. The octane development is very slowly....and i think a big part of the user is frustrated.
Dont understand me wrong, i think octane is a great software and im happy with it...most.
