OctaneRender™ 3.0 for LightWave™ - Production build 3.06.4.1
Moderator: juanjgon
Nope, every time I load an existing scene with Octane volumetrics the scene crashes when I go to edit the volumetrics. I've just given up and gone back to an earlier version. One day this plugin will be worth the money I've spent on it.juanjgon wrote:Can you please provide more details about this problem? Could be useful to know what kind of volumetrics you have this problem (TFD, VDB, etc.), the LightWave, NVIDIA drivers and OS versions, your system specs, etc. If you can enable the log file in the plugin options panel and attach it here, we could know more details about the crash point. A sample scene with this problem could also help.
Thanks,
-Juanjo
Well, nobody else seems to have this problem, so we should try to find why you have this issues with the volumetrics.AndyM1969 wrote:Nope, every time I load an existing scene with Octane volumetrics the scene crashes when I go to edit the volumetrics. - What version of LW are you using and over what OS?
- When exactly you get the crash? While editing the volume parameters with the IPR enabled, without the IPR enabled or while rendering with F9/F10?
- Have you tried to re-install the plugin with clean config files, adding the plugin .p file to the layout again?
Please, any additional information about how to reproduce this problem could help. Also if the crash is at render time or while using the IPR, the plugin log file could have some clues about the source of the problem. A sample scene with this problem could also help.
Thanks,
-Juanjo
did anyone test the recently added network GPU feature when using LWSN for rendering? i am having a problem on OSX, so it would be interesting to see if other users did try this successfully. juanjo is looking into this feature as well.

Juanjo, in the hopes that 3.07 will be out.. er.. sometime before many of us retire, maybe you could look at crashes with IPR open and turning back on (many) instances via Object Properties > Instancer > Instance Generator > [x] On... If I have tens or hundreds of thousands of instances turned off, but then turn back on whilst IPR is open, I believe it crashes every time, regardless of scene. I usually remember to close IPR before turning instances back on, but thought it should be reported nonetheless, and who knows, maybe you could sneak this fix into 3.07. No emergency. Thanks pal.

Zoinks!
I can't believe it's almost been a month! Juanjo sir, I take it that 3.07 sdk is in your extraordinarily capable hands, and LW Octane 3.07 release is imminent... like today or tomorrow?
And did you see this ^ above? Where you able to repeat this? Have it squooshed?
Please advise. Thanks J!

Sorry, I'll take a short break for vacation, so probably there is not going to be a new Lightwave or Houdini plugin builds until September. I'll check also the reported bug about instancing for the next build, although anyway the instancers on/off feature only works for the first one due to a limitation in the LightWave SDK. The crash can be related to this limitation, but I'll try to fix it.
Thanks for your patience,

Thanks J. I think they need to work out some bugs anyway, so it is just as well. Enjoy your vacation big guy. You deserve it!
