Hi guys,
We are mainly fumefx users , currently want to switch to octane from vray for effects rendering just wondering.
Which one had most support for current version of octane render Phoenix FD or Fumfx ?
I did some search in the forum its seems Phoenix FD is supported but information on how to render it is all over the place....
Some advice will be helpful to chose the right software..
Thanks
Jimmy
Does Octane support Fumefx ?

Hi Jimmy,
Octane supports PhoenixFD and developers improve support day by day.
At present, Octane Render does not support Fume Fx, you have to export your volumes to .VDB and use it with Octane Volume.

I think it's important to clarify that if you're using FumeFX 4, you can simulate OpenVDB files. Octane just doesn't support native Fume files. But you can still use Fumefx with Octane if you use the .vdb option for file type to simulate to. That's what I did to make this video:

Really interested to see how you manage your compositing without zdepth , because octane can't render zdepth from vdb! Any tips ? Picture? Thanks wren!

For advanced compositing you could use deep image render:

Haha yeah, Nuke is great.
However, I didn't have a problem just using a noise map as a track matte for the dude disappearing into the smoke.
