Hi,
I have to make a fur carpet: is there a tutorial for proxy geometry?

Proxy geometry

What specifically do you want to know about proxies? The manual covers them at https://docs.otoy.com/RhinoH/RhinoPlugi ... tryTab.htm. You can have .OBJ, .OCS or .ORBX files are proxy geometry.

Hi Paul,
I have to make a carpet (like this: https://3dsky.org/3dmodels/show/kovier_shaggy). I have to repeat a string thousand of time (with a rhino plugin) but I think it will crash my system. How can I make instance geometry?

Why don't you purchase that carpet OBJ and render it as an Octane geometry proxy?

I have downloaded this carpet but it has only 3 string that I have to repeat thousand of time. So which is the correct process? Create a block for every string and after replicate it? After?

There are a few ways to do this...
1) Use a pre-made carpet geometry OBJ, which has the carpet fibers as polygons that covers the entire area that you need carpeted. The OBJ could be a geometry proxy or geometry imported into the Rhino scene. This is the easiest solution, but will have a lot of polygons.
2) Use a pre-made carpet geometry OBJ, which has the carpet fibers as polygons which is small, which you can replicate it via a block instance or scatter node.
3) Use the Octane Hair guides as carpet threads. The hair guides would need to be in .ABC format, importing into an ORBX/OCS file used as a proxy.

It's a feature introduced in Octane 2. I can't find any documentation on it - so I suggest you request info from the Otoy devs/documentation ppl to get you up to speed.what is Octane Hair guides?
