Acer support does only provide 188.99 as far as I can tell which, as you say, isnt suitable.

With Windows you dont need the toolkit as well as the driver - just the driver which includes cuda in it. You need a driver with cuda 3.0 for the demo and current stable release of Octane.

You might want to use a driver cleaner before you install your next one to make sure you get any stay bits left over from your previous experiments

The last cuda 3.0 one available at the Nvidia site listed for your card is 197.16. (I know I know read on...)

This worked for that driver on the post at nvnews!! Thanks a lot. Octane is running.
I had to replace all lines on 15 and 16. It now says cuda 3.1 enable on my laptop.
I hope acer fixes the drive issue since its tough to install or maybe its not just an acer issue but an nvidia driver issue.

The same mod procedure should work for all Nvidia drivers that are appropriate to the 330M including those I thoughtfully linked to.
When we move on to cuda 3.2 and you dont have an Acer driver you know what to do
It is inconvenient to have to do this but at least you are up and running with Octane now and will be able to keep up with future development.
Its not really a bug as such. An OEM Acer driver has those 5745G specific codes listed it in relation to the hardware code for the 330M.
The driver wont install on your machine if they aren't present and correct.
Its supposed to protect the consumer (I think) but it gets in the way if the vendor is dragging their feet. Really Acer should be approving and publishing drivers more often than they are. 188.99 is pretty old now - over a year since Nvidia was using similar numbers.
I really doubt there would be video issues specific to their hardware so its probably just a formality for them to do exactly what you did, give it a unique number, and make it available in their support pages.
