With Windows you dont need the toolkit as well as the driver - just the driver which includes cuda in it. You need a driver with cuda 3.0 for the demo and current stable release of Octane.
You might want to use a driver cleaner before you install your next one to make sure you get any stay bits left over from your previous experiments

I had to replace all lines on 15 and 16. It now says cuda 3.1 enable on my laptop.
I hope acer fixes the drive issue since its tough to install or maybe its not just an acer issue but an nvidia driver issue.
