I'm currently using the demo version of Octane (3.05.3) in Cinema4D Studio R18.011 and it's working fine. I want to buy Octane but I see that the minimum C4D version is R18.039. Can I not use Octane with my current version?

Yes, I used the R17 version of Octane demo because the R18 one was not working. I forgot to mention this. Will I be able to buy Octane for Cinema4D and use the R17 one like I have done for the demo?

Hi there, as specified, each .cdl64 file is to be used for the respective version of Cinema 4D installed in the machine.
So in your case you should only use c4dOctane-R17.cdl64 only if you are using C4D R17, otherwise you will get problems expecting features of c4dOctane-R18.cdl64
