Folks,

I installed the Octane demo version on a Dell Precision M6400 (mobile) notebook.
It features a Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M GPU that is CUDA supported.

It runs a 32bit Win XP

Octane (OctaneRender_DEMO_1022_beta22_win_32.exe) installs fine and I can load any of the test scenes in the demo suite, however, when I click on the node labeled "click here" Octane crashes immediately.

The device manager reports a CUDA Driver Version 3 and a Quadro FX 3700M (0 compute 11 display).

CUDA-Z also runs fine and the only thing it reports as Not Supported in the section Performance Information is Double-precision Float.

Any Idea what could be the problem other than the above ?

Thanks!

can you try installing the latest quadro drivers from the main nvidia site ?
there's also a tutorial on how setting up octane / installation, you can get to it by clicking on the big question mark link on the top left of the downloads page.

Hi,

Which drivers are you using, can you tell us what you downloaded and installed? ?

Speaking for Bobias:

After messing around with this laptop for 5 hours I found out that you have to use Acer's Drivers. The ones from Nvidia refuse to recognize the GeForce M330GT Graphics Card in the Machine. I am not sure why. So it looks like I am stuck unless Acer updates their graphics Driver so that is is Cuda Enabled. I believe the Driver is 188 or 187. I am at work so I cannot say for sure until I get home.

I`m also having an issue with octane commercial version on an acer s745g laptop with gt330m gfx.
I installed 257.15_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_international_beta and
258.96_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_international_whql
and both with cudatoolkit_3.1_win_64. It didnt fix octane issue.
The OP found a driver that works with this laptop?

Anyone got acer laptops usable with octane?
The only driver that installs in this laptop is VGA_NVIDIA_8.16.11.8886_W7x64_A from acer website and it only has cuda ver 2.2
I installed cudatoolkit 3.0 or 3.1 and it says driver is old and not supported.
Couldnt get the verde drivers from nvidia installed and autodetect hardware doesnt work either.

Acer support does only provide 188.99 as far as I can tell which, as you say, isnt suitable.

With Windows you dont need the toolkit as well as the driver - just the driver which includes cuda in it. You need a driver with cuda 3.0 for the demo and current stable release of Octane.

You might want to use a driver cleaner before you install your next one to make sure you get any stay bits left over from your previous experiments

The last cuda 3.0 one available at the Nvidia site listed for your card is 197.16. (I know I know read on...)

This one suits pre2.3 (octane live) and the next few releases.

Using this one instead might save you messing around again soon to update.

Ok the important prerequisite to installing either of the above -
