Hello,

Does Octane use / need system RAM (not GPU ram) on slave machines? We want to build a network render machine but we have no idea how to spec it beyond GPU's.

Any help or guidance from those with experience in this area or the Otoy team would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Seeker

A slave stores all render data on the host side, plus the render results that haven't been sent to the master yet. So give it enough memory to be able to hold the complete render data, plus maybe a couple more GB for the results and everything else. Storing the data only on the GPUs is theoretically feasible, but a lot of work and really complicated and would introduce more problems than it solves. RAM is pretty cheap these days.

Thanks Abstrax,
Somehow I missed this response and I was just going to bump it...

Does 'complete render data' include out of core data? For a Titan X setup 16GB should be enough? Or do would we need more, depending on the scene? Could you possibly give us a guideline here? Mainly Archviz work.

Thanks
