Also confused about PCI lanes

I'm also dealing with confusion on PCI Lanes.

Was just reading viewtopic.php?f=40&t=62113 but didn't want to hijack the thread.

If you have a x16 speed netstor using one x16 lane on the mobo branching off to 4 1080 TI cards, does that mean they get 4 PCI lanes each? ASUS says it will have a serious impact on video rendering (if the mobo even recognizes all the GPUS which they also can't confirm) but I'm not sure they know the difference between gaming and octane rendering after a quick live chat.

If it takes 1 minute to load a scene on a x16 lane card, then it will take 4 minutes to load that same scene on a x4 lane card correct?

a 40 lane processor trying to run 6 cards would be forced to run them all at x4 speeds if I understand this correctly.

I guess I don't understand nearly as well as I thought, just got this link back from Netstor tech:

so really, x4 speed won't slow load time down all that much I guess. I thought it was linear scaling.
