Thanks to Smicha and Tom for advices.
What's the model of your power supply ?
My Xeon need more than 300W.

Hey all - resurrecting this thread as it seems to be fairly close to at least some of my questions right now. I've been running my 7x 980 TI build - EP2C612 WS + 2x Intel Computer CPU 2.1 8 BX80660E52620V4 (https://ark.intel.com/products/92986/In ... -2-10-GHz-) for a while now - all is well with it and octane. What was a huge surprise to me is how bad After Effects runs on it. When I built the machine, After Effects was an after thought, I do most of my work on mac, but more and more I'm using my PC, and I would love to use it to render AE as well as octane. My ancient trashcan mac runs circles around this pc. I can get 4-5 command line renders going on the mac (most of my work is very large format; 5k and above), where the pc struggles with 1-2 reliably, and is slower on most renders.
So what can I do to upgrade this so it handles both AE and Octane? According to the EP2C612 WS specs https://www.asrockrack.com/general/prod ... ifications I can't just swap in an i7 or i9, is that true?. So if I swap the motherboard out, what are my options? Is the Asus X99-E WS the only 7 GPU option I have, or are there others? Is it stable these days? Are there AMD options? What CPU gives me the best bang for the buck here?
If I have to, I'll build a 2nd rig, but do to space and power considerations, I'd like to try to get the one I have running as efficiently (and fast) as possible. While I'm dismantling stuff, I might upgrade a few of the cards as well, but that will be a secondary consideration. I may transfer whatever parts are left over to a second rig anyway, but primary is getting this one going.
Thanks for any insight!
(as an aside, really nice rig, itou31!)

Why these bastards (Asrock, Asus, Supermicro, et al) must use green pcb on such pricey Dual-CPU 7+ GPU workstation mobos is beyond me! Yuck! Even if the case has no windows and flashing lights etc, and is never seen by anyone, it would just make me feel that my WS is just a little more badass, if the mobo is black or charcoal gray inside The Beast...
