Lovely licence question

So I just would like to ask that the new license is transferable or not? Previously I got the answer yes, that it is transferable. But now I can read: "The client is not authorized to transfer or sell the software to a third party." I mean currently Octane's license had been non transferable, had it?

Along with andras's question, what specific hardware bounds the license to the PC? MB? CPU? Because it seems if you upgrade the GPU it doesn't affect the license.

I wanted to ask this so i know about upgrading the PC.

Hi,

You may not transfer the license to another customer.
You may reactivate the license on your machine in case you upgrade your machine in the future.
You may do the last up to 3x (but not all at once) and then we process the application personally.

Hi!

I have another fancy licence question.

Currently I have a computer running Windows (because I can't get a full drivers support for all my hardware in Linux). I plan to buy a new strong computer with full support on side of drivers for Linux, but it will happen around the end of the year, I presume (maybe sooner, but I'm not sure). But I definitely want to run Linux on that machine (I use mainly Blender/Wings for living).

Is that possible to purchase Windows licence now and later switch to only Linux licence?

licenses are licenses and are not linked to any hardware specifically. You can "transit" your license from one to the other.

OK. But this case is about software environment. Does it apply to OS too?

It appears that no, licenses are not linked to software either. When you'll buy your license you'll be able to download binaries for whichever system, no matter what OS you chose when applying for purchase.

If I understood correctly with floating license, you'll be able to de-activate it on your windows machine, and then (after an hour or so of waiting period) re-activate it on your Linux system.

Yes! That appears logical. But one needs to be sure.

I know I will need that transfer once.

I've tried to find that answer before posting here, but didn't find anywhere. And if I see the "buy now" area, there is choice for OS right there, i.e. before you really buy.

But no explanation here, if possible change it later.

I'm sorry for that, but it is important to me. If I'll be ensured (preferably by Refractive Software staff) that it is possible, I'll go ahead for sure and buy it!

we just ask what platform you use so we keep track of the distribution of clients running what operating systems.
An octane render license is a license, it works on all platforms, so it does'nt really matter what you choose in that field, it's just stored for information purposes.

OK. Thanks, Radiance, for your answer! I'll take it like "YES, no problem to transfer your licence to Linux later", even that it haven't been said too directly.

I don't really want to be annoying pedant, but it's just some bad experience with something being just adumbrated and said not clearly and then twisted with statement like "we didn't really said that". We're in strange business world nowadays.

I don't suspect it can be your case.
