Hi Paul ..
Yes, I understand that Octane 6 is not supported.

Octane for R5 is a serious problem for me currently. I must have some setting screwed up. The viewport 'open' is turning on automatically though no viewport is showing on my second monitor until I click 'render' but when that starts the render everything except 'zoom' of the viewport freezes.thanks,
eric

Oh, Incidently, when I click on the download for the latest R5 build (83) and install it I am told it is for R6

I'm sorry, but none of that makes any sense to me. Can you provide screenshots showing your workflow so that I can get a better understanding of the problem?

That is a McNeel issue.

Hi Paul ...
Yes, I will provide screen shots of the progress of work on a small project. It might take a couple of days to get to this.
cheers,
eric

Hi Paul ..
Obviously I use 2 monitors.
The first screen shot is the way the file opens. The Octane tool bar is on the right.
The second screen shot is the render. If I click on the Octane tool bar ('open viewport') it shows that it is opening but no viewport appears.
If I try to open Octane render from the Rhino command line it pops up a window telling me that Octane is already open.
The only option I have at that point is to click 'render' at the top of the rhino screen and than again when the toolbar drops down. Then I get the second screen shot with the render in progress ... but at that point everything is locked except that I can zoom or move the image in the viewport. Otherwise the computer just beeps at me when I click a mouse button.

By the way, I get the same thing with the beta. After I render once, though, Rhino will not open the next time ... showing the 'exception' window I sent you a couple of days ago.

Note the tool bar at the top of the rendering viewport window. Is that correct?

thanks,
eric

That was not obvious until now. I suspect the Viewport is opening off the screen somewhere. You can see the location that it will open if you look in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\OctaneRender for Rhinoceros\config.xml - the ViewportX, ViewportY parameters will be the X/Y screen position that the Viewport will open - what are these pls? And what are ViewportWidth and ViewportHeight.

Cabin 2.jpg is showing the Rhino render window, and not the Octane Viewport. Are you perhaps getting these two confused? You open the Octane Veiwport by clicking the Open Viewport button on the OctaneRender tab. The Rhino Render window will lock until all samples have been rendered by Octane (although you can click Cancel to abort the render).

I would recommend docking the OctaneRender tab in the Rhinoceros tabs window.

RHINO 6 (WIP)

Pls note : I have found a CRITICAL error in Rhino 6, which will result in the rendertarget settings being lost if you save a .rhi. So pls stop using the plugin in Rhino 6 until I can resolve this issue with McNeel. I have removed the installer link above.

Hi Paul

I cannot get the config.xml to open ... every time I try the little circle by the mouse pointer comes on and just keeps turning. It doesn't seem to have an effect on computer operations but it does not stop until I reboot the computer.

Yes, I thought I was seeing the Rhino Render window when I pressed 'render' in the Rhino tab.

But I cannot get the Octane render window to be visible ... at all.

Help if you can.
cheers

Eric - config.xml is a text file, so open it in Notepad or some other editor.

Thank you Paul ...

That was the problem. Somehow it got way off the monitor(s).
One setting was 0 and the other nearly 8000

Octane for R5 is working just fine now
