hi
to my surprise i need to render a simple jewellery.
never done that before - but i guess a good hdri is 90% of the work.
can any one recommend a good "getting started" hdri / site?
thanks

I think I may have said this a couple years back in another thread about the very same thing: Multiple (like a dozen or more) little lights must be the key. Jewelry stores always seem to have many small halogens and I'm sure it's no mistake, since diamonds etc sparkle big-time under those conditions. I'd start there.

hi frank
thanks for your input.
i found a hdri that works - ok. searched for "hdri and jewellery", but should just have searched for hdri.
it's ok, but i might later have to tried your trick with lights.
i'm not used to the standalone.
do you think i just can model some objects in sketchup and the add some emitting material to the objects in standalone?
well i will try that.. .
thanks

Sorry, I was actually suggesting an hdri with lots of little light sources, since you were asking about hdri. There are studio-style hdris out there, and it sounds like you found one. But if I were doing this myself in LW, yes, I would be using Octane lights, since I believe specular renders quicker/cleaner with lights... I dunno. Never did jewelry.
