Mac Pro Early 2009 (4,1)
Yosemite 10.10.5 (14F1605)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
NVIDIA Web Driver 346.02.03f05
Cuda Driver 7.5.30
Cinema 4D r17.055
Octane Render 3.06

Octane demo v2 standalone and Cinema 4D plugin worked flawlessly so i took the plunge a few weeks ago and purchased Octane 3. Installed V3 standalone. Installed V3 plugin (deleted all other Cinema 4D versions prior to copying files) and now when running Octane 3 no gpu's show up in Settings/Devices. V3 Standalone says "Cuda driver must be at least version 8.00". However I read Cuda 8 works only with Mac OS 10.11/10.12. V2 demo standalone works perfectly and recognizes GPU. I saw a few other threads with this topic but am wondering if this is tied to my machine being a Mac Pro 2009 4,1. Starting to get frustrated and feel like I'm running out of options.

Also the only other thing I can think of is I still have the old original gpu installed in slot 3 (NVIDIA GeForce GT 120) but the start up gpu is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti in slot 1 powering my dual 23 inch Cinema Displays. I read somewhere removing the old original gpu will force Octane to recognize the 980ti but since the V2 standalone works with it I figured this approach might be a stretch.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi visualmonk,
I have the same Mac Pro 2009, with GT120 and another GTX 970 for Octane, so I can confirm that it works very well.
If you cannot switch to El Capitan, you can still work with v3, but you have to stay with v3.05.3, that is still based on CUDA 7.5:

Anyway, my advice is to update to El Capitan, v3.06 with Adaptive Sampling worths any difficulties.
As soon as you update to CUDA 8, everything will work as expected.
I 'm also testing Sierra, by patching the installer to work with Mac Pro 2009, and it seems to work pretty well.
I'll keep you informed on this.
Happy rendering,
ciao beppe

Thanks for the quick reply bepeg4d. I installed v3.05.3 while still running Yosemite and its working perfectly! Standalone and C4D plugin.

I think I will take your advice and upgrade to El Capitan to take advantage of Adaptive Sampling. I just wanted to make sure I got everything running for now.

Thanks again and please keep me posted on the Sierra patch as I might look into upgrading to Sierra eventually.
