hi all
just wanted to share a small project WIP.
i just ordered a 3d printer and this is the sketch for the first project (as soon as the printer shows up).
the printed parts will be the robot. hopefully i can print it with a iron filament so i can get the rusted look.
comments and crit are welcome

That is very cool.
If you can't get it made with iron filament, you can use a product by Triangle Crafts called Sophisticated Finishes. They have a "Iron Metallic Surfacer" that is a polyacrylate paint and goes on looking grey and it will rust. They also have a solution called "Rust Antiquing Solution" which allows better control on where the rust happens. It gets very realistic results, but you will have to seal it so it doesn't keep rusting.

finally i got my PRUSA I3 printer and manage to print and assemble the lamp sketch
pretty happy with the result. looks petty similar to the sketch render.

You know, sometimes (more often than not) sketch or 3D render looks way better than original..& when You finally see the piece..it's somehow doesn't meet what You were expecting. But not this time!
Render itself was awesome, but end result is even better! ;) I don't usually like those small things that gather dust..but this one is really awesome piece!
Mind sharing how long it took for You to design it, were there any troubles with metal printing..after all what were the total cost (well I guess You were not counting Your time, so just include that as well).

I was surprised to see that 3D printers can be ale to produced such things too.Perfect!
