Hello,
At the moment I have a Mac Pro with 2 Intel Xeon X5690 3,46 Ghz with 2 Nvidia GTX 980 cards and 98 GB ram
the viewport is struggling and a project will not render.
Therefore I want to buy a new system
I want to make a custom build PC for work in C4D and rendering in Octane.
I also work with After effects
This is what I had in mind:
Processor i7 6900
1 X Nvidia Titan Xp or Quadro p6000 (Has 24 VRAM of the Quadro P6000 an advantage over the 12 VRAM of the Titan Xp?)
4 x Nvidia 1080ti
I want to put the GTX 980 from my Mac also in the system but is this possible with this processor?
Or must I go with the fastest Xeon processors with a server-based motherboard?
These are a bit faster than my current system thats why I had the i7 in mind.
Advice would be appreciated
Thanks,
Bert

Hi Bert,
unless you really need 24gb of ram (but i doubt it), I advice you to buy a bunch of 1080ti for the same price and put them on liquid cooling (this is important).
The p6000 is based on the same gpu as Titan Xp (Gp 102 with 3840 cuda cores), a slightly enhanced version of the 1080ti gpu (gp 102 with 3584 cuda cores), but you can reach the same performace with the 1080ti due to the higher clock of the geforce solution.
Just to compare the quadro will render a frame roughly in the same time of a Titan xp and in a little less time than a 1080ti, but on average it cost 5000$ (for what i can see on amazon), with that money you can buy 7x 1080ti, and render 7 frames in the same timespan, 1 day vs a week of render is a lot of time
(and 11gb are a lot of memory btw)
ps: remember that octane use only the vram available in the smallest gpu, if for example you have the p6000, and a 980, it will use max 4gb of ram, so is not a good idea to mix various cards
ps2: for the cpu, the 6900k has 40 PCI-E lanes so it's ok, but a xeon with WS motherboard will be better, check this channel from the user Smicha, it has good stuff there: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 6BTrFetgz0
