Maya demo plugin freeze - Titan X

I'm trying the demo plugin (3.04) for Maya (2016.5/2017) with Mac OS 10.11.6, Titan X GPU. IPR rendering appears to work, but any attempt to actually render a frame completely freezes Maya, requiring a force-quit.

I ran the Octane Bench, which worked fine with my GPU, scored as expected for a single Titan X.

Any help out there, or should I just bail on Octane as a possible renderer for my system?

Maybe you had no luck with the demo version you tried.

Unfortunately that version performs exactly the same on my machine. IPR renders work, but actual rendering out to file freezes Maya, requiring force quit. Tried 2016 and 2016.5.

have you tried in the Shop/Demo section of this site?

I think it might be primarily when using R16. I've not had an issue with the 340.xx in R15, but within 2 mins of installing and opening R16 it had crashed
