Hey guys,
i couldnt find any thread about this topic.
We have a lot of big scenes, round about 10-20 mill polys.
Sadly the export time to octane is super slow in such big scenes, compared to other rendereres.
We would like to invest in more gpu power, and go with 20 extra 1080 TIs to render our scenes.
Can we expect enhancements for the geometry export time in the future?
Or maybe a toggle to fix the geometry in ram, for when its not changend?
Because sometimes we have to reload octane, because some shaders arent refreshing.
PS: Our scenes contain a lot of constructed products from CAD files, so there is no way for render instances or other optimization.
Thanks and Cheers
Daniel
Export Time

I think that's not export time, it's geometry data preparation for pathtracer on renderer side. Are you waiting long before or after seein "updating" message?

Yes, i also think its the preparation time. Waiting long after seeing updating.aoktar wrote:I think that's not export time, it's geometry data preparation for pathtracer on renderer side. Are you waiting long before or after seein "updating" message?
Ok! Because plugin does the job very fast. Preparation times are a fundamental problem with renderer. I know that faster processing is targetted for V4. Btw don't forget that why we have a state-based plugin and renderer. To keep unchanged data and just update the modified geometries/materials/textures/etc... I believe that no other engine has this kind of complicated processing engine.

Jeah, that makes sense, and good to hear.
Do i have to consider something to ensure that every attribute and change will refresh in the live viewer?
Sometimes it misses some shaders, and the "complete reloads" of the live viewer are the big problem.
If i only had to reload everything two or three times a day it would be perfect

You should not need to reload/resend the whole scene on every changes. Maybe for a case that's very rare. It will update the meshes or materials when a change occured.
What's not updating on shaders? It should update when you change any parameters.

Yes you are right, it only happens in rare cases.
But sometimes this rare cases occur 20 times a day.
I will try to mark down the situations when this happens.
(Maybe the cases are repeatable, then i will do some example scenes)
Thanks a lot for the info and your time
Cheers Daniel

A sample scene is always best! Please do that and let's take a look for issue. Thanks!
