hi,
i am demoing the octane for cinema and am having regular crashes with this version.
im using the node editor and trying to mix some materials. using mostly 4k maps.
at some point the update of the materials gets wonky and sometimes i get crashes,
usually when reconnecting some nodes.
i sent a couple of crash logs to maxon but the reply is always the same:
Hello,
You forwarded a bugreport to us at 2017/04/10.
The crash has been caused by Octanes renderplugin.
To avoid further crashes remove the plugin from your installation of Cinema 4D
or try to install the latest version of this plugin.
You should inform and describe this problem to the developer of the plugin to assure he can
reconstruct the issue and fix the problem.
Kind regards,
Technical Support
i am planning to buy the c4d plugin but i would like to know if the node editor issues have been adressed.
thanks
octane 3.05.3 node editor crashes

Hey,
Have you sent us some bugreport/scenes and details? That's the way how we can detect the issues and help to you. I don't think NE is unstable but maybe some spesific issues about your workflow or usage which are causing those. Disabling previews can be first place to check that.

hi aoktar,
i just sent the latest report via email.
among other things the updating of the materials in live view is odd.
i have 3 models with same texture. changing some parameters updates one model but not the other for instance.
also i what relation do the projection in node editor and the tag in cinema4d stand?
which has the priority?

Sorry don't get what it's this. Best to give me enough details: Parameters of settings/other, full version information, bug report and some sample scene with steps for reproducing the crashes.

hi aoktar,
i went ahead and bought the plugin for c4d and installed the latest 3.06
while playing around with triplanar node again i had some refreshing issues and it was followed by a crash.
attached is the very simple scene.
cheers,

hi aoktar,
thanks for replying on a sunday evening. that is amazing.
i was testing things out:
- first i loaded a substance via substance asset loader. set the resolution of the loader to 2k and the c4d shader options in the octane options to 2k aswell.
- i converted the substance material to octane material and opened up the node editor
- i tried straight away the triplanar node and connected all the outputs, could not get it to work with the native substance maps so i loaded a turbulence map.
ofcourse it seemed that i had to set xyz or planar to each map and use the transform node and input it into each map that is piped into triplanar.
the problem occurs while changing the connections more often it seems. the maps do not display correctly, as if the older map is somehow in the "buffer" and displays in the live view although i changed it.
i was then changing the rotation of the transfer node that was going into the turbulence map and the octane at that moment crashed.
thats about it. its also has the same symptoms of the previous crashes actually.
it may be down to my graphic card or system in general, not sure how though.
fwiw, it would be amazing to be able to use the substance maps without having them bounced out out of SDesigner first. im talking bull right now but if there was a wrapper that could handle the substance maps the same way as the image texture, (with texture and projection inputs) that would be a dream come true.

Sorry still can't get crashes and issues. How possible to capture a video for me?crackfox wrote:i´d just like to nudge this up a bit.
dont want to be a pest but am interested what the status is, or if i may have caused the problem by some user error.
