Instance renders fine with F9 and F10 single frame, but...

Hi all, new user here, lured by the speed of DoF and motion blur :)

I've run into the first issue I can't figure out. I have two wheels, one in front of the other. They roll on to the screen, the first is real geometry, followed by the second, an instance of the first. They look fine in IPR, they look fine as an F9 render, and they look fine if I begin the render with the instance already on screen. However, if I render the scene with the instanced wheel beginning out of sight, it never actually appears! Should I assume this is some sort of memory saving device going on? If so, how can I prevent it from happening?

Hi and welcome!

This is really a weird issue. Any chance to get the scene to test it here? Probably if you render the animation in "full scene reload" mode all is going to work fine, but this kind of animation should be possible also in the "update scene" mode.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hi chaps :)

This first image is an IPR render of frame 93 - the track has moved in from the right.
Octane_IPR_Render_v001.jpg
This second image is the F9 render of the same frame - all's well.
Octane_F9_Render_v001.jpg
This image is the F10 render of that same frame as part of the sequence.
Anim_A_Octane_v012_093.png
This image is the F10 render a few frames later (frame 100) - the wheel isn't following the null it's instanced to.
Anim_A_Octane_v012_100.png
Wherever the animation starts, that's where the wheel remains - which is why I assumed it's something I've not set correctly. If I scrub through with the IPR open, all looks fine, but the F10 render leaves the wheel behind from wherever in the animation the render range is set to start. I had started the renders off at frame 0, with the whole track off-screen, which is why the only thing I saw was the tarck moving in attached to only the first wheel - the real geometry wheel.

Happy to share the scene if needed, but I don't fancy posting it in the thread if that's okay?

Hi,

It is easy ;) The problem is that you are rendering the scene in update mode, but the option to update also the instances is disabled. If you enable it like in the attached image, the instances should be rendering fine.

Thanks,
-Juanjo
