Hi there,
I'm a mac user and i bought an octane licence standalone +plugin (c4d). Now I just bought a new pc specifically for rendering tasks (2x1080ti) and i plan to buy a new licence for this one and be able to work on the mac while rendering on the pc. My question is quite simple, do i need to buy the standalone version again ? Or just the plugin licence will be fine ? Thx for your help :-) so it will be 2 different machines rendering on the same network. i checked in the FAQ, found the question but don't really understand the answer :D

As long as "headless rendering" is not released in Octane your MAC needs Nvidia cards if you want to use Octane on them. This feature is still missing.
Each plugin license requires a stand alone license while you use it (on the same machine).
So you need in fact 2 stand alone licenses plus one plugin license and 2 machines with Nvidia card(s) in them if you want to distribute the render jobs on the network.

Thx Refracty. Actually my mac has a nvidia card, as i'm using octane everyday with it. My concern is about my new Pc. Do i need to buy the standalone + the plugin for this one ? As it starts to be really expensive for a single user :? My idea is still to be able to work on the mac while rendering on the PC. Thx for your answer ;-)

Wherever you will use C4D with Octane you need c4d+standalone licenses.

However, if you use one of your machines just as a network render node, then a standalone license will suffice.

Make sure you don't use offline licensing if you are moving from one machine to another as otherwise you'd need to explicitly sign off to release your licenses instead of the default which releases them automatically.
