the second link is not working, anyway, in general,
OctaneRender is not a physically accurate light simulator, and the situation that suffers the most, are the emitters behind transparent specular materials, or recesses in the geometry. The reason is in the fact that the complexity of the calculations increases exponentially, and you need too many samples to clean up. So, it makes no sense to faithfully reproduce the light sources, but to abstract and simplify their operation.
Look at this example in c4doctane, but you can do the same in any plugin: 1 - Light with fairly complex geometry inserted inside a glass envelope - the noise is very obvious and you need a long rendering time before being able to clean up the image.
2- The trick is to disable the emitter lighting inserted into the glass, by unchecking the Cast illumination option: 3- then create a very stylized geometric shape that overhang the glass, assign a new emitter material, and make it invisible bringing the Opacity value to 0: in this way, you have zero noise even after just a few samples, and you can control the illuminating internal power separately, in order to obtain an even more realistic effect.
