activate- deactivate - sad situation !!

ok - so really you guys need to change your system.

full version - 3 (nothing about this on your front page)
1 - laptop is signed off (where license was last activated).... - now with new system build - cant activate.
2- have to sign on to laptop - cant find deactivate button ???
3 - have to logon to your site where there's a different logon for different sections
4 - the button is showing deactivated ??? did I click something somewhere ??? no idea
5 - now able to logon new build. - but you didn't allow a logon even though my laptop was signed off ???? - what is the point really of having a sign on process to use the software but I cant use it elsewhere if I am logged off already ? - so either make it a logon with no activation or really have buttons that do it for you - so I don't have to type my logon info each time !!!!

plugin version....for MODO

has a button - it shows ACTIVATION - NOT DE-ACTIVATE !!!! - hovering over the ACTIVATE button - says clicking ACTIVATE will deactivate !!!! HUH ??????

I deactivate !!! - go to my new build...... I cant activate !!!! telling me your license is not deactivated !!! WTF !!!! - but it also tells me that I can release one or more licenses and retry or logon as a different user ? what ?????? - I don't have another license - I only have the one I deactivated !!!! and why would I log on as a different user ??? I don't have a different user account.... I have one account with one license that I already deactivated but now cant use on my new PC????

the license is tied to MODO - which you know -- so even if I logged on as a different user, it probably would not work... because my modo license didn't change !!!

I'm not sure what your problem is, but you don't use the web interface to activate/deactivate licenses. That's a just a last-resort option, in case you get stuck and have no option to sign-in/sign-out again. Activation/deactivation of licenses should always be done via the application.

What exactly happens depends on whether you signed in using the online or offline licensing mode. If you use the online licensing mode (which you decide in the single-sign-on dialog, where you enter your credentials), the license is activated during startup and de-activated during shutdown of the application.

If you use the offline licensing mode, the license is not deactivated during shutdown. So you can use it without Internet connection. To release the license you have to switch to the online licensing mode by signing out and then signing in again with "offline licensing mode" disabled.

I'm sorry, if I misunderstand your issue, but in a nutshell that's how the licensing stuff works.

im sorry but that is not how your system is working... i hadnt logged on to standalone in a while and when I tried on my new build, it wouldn't let me. - only when I went back to my laptop and logged on and off again - that is when the license was released even though I was logged off in the first place. - you must have a bug in your system you are not aware about. - please look at my last posting where I had to use an unlock because of a similar situation.

right now I cannot use modo plugin. even though I clicked the deactivate button in modo on my laptop. so problem there too.... unless it's because of that one hour wait time.... which is completely silly to penalize paying customers one hour of their time because of computer switch. - How would you like your bank to do that to you because you log on from a different mobile device and they make you wait an hour before you can access your money. pretty stupid heh ? - well time is money !!!!!!

I've checked out DB and looks like your MODO license is in use by another machine (17LAPS), but not your standalone license.

This could happen if MODO was not closed gracefully, not giving a chance to Octane to release its licenses. You may have used standalone on the same machine too later on, which should have released the Standalone license but not MODO plugin's.

If you still have access to that machine and can open MODO and the Octane plugin, the licenses should be released after closing it. You may check it on the OctaneLive website:

If you cannot access that machine anymore, just use the "Unlock" button on the same page, which releases the license as an emergency measure.

there are issues with this process and I find myself again in a position to use an unlock when it's not my fault. arrrgh !!!

You are right, that wouldn't make sense. You'd need to use the unlocking function just if the machine where the license is locked is not accessible anymore.

I'll ask the MODO dev to take a look at this as I don't quite understand why you are seeing an activation button, which should not be present unless you are still using Octane v2 but your licenses are all v3.

Unfortunately deactivating via the website cannot be achieved using the current licensing system but we take into account your request.

hi, i dont think you are understanding.... modo + octane on 17 laps is showing deactivated. - but I cannot logon with modo + octane on my new PC.

i have an image with both screens showing exactly this. - it doesnt deactivate. so stop telling me to try stuff. it doesnt work. and i dont want to use an unlock again. so in your database, please deactivate it !!! you guys have too many logons and to many deactivate processes which are not handling things properly under different scenarios.

I have never had to use the Unlock function after a Modo crash.

I have changed the tooltip to read "Opens the Octane Authentication Management window." in the next release.
