New to Octane from Iray and have a question. I have a GTX1080 on my main machine using the Cinema4d plugin. I also have a second machine with two 980tis which are active and present in the network renderer.

Question is: Does Octane use both in tandem for rendering when working with the Live viewer in C4D, or is it an either or situation?

I even tried to set up the local 1080 gpu as a network renderer but wasn't able to get it to show.

(BTW, amazing software.)

Hi BCres,
you need another Standalone license for the second machine to use it as a Slave with OctaneRender network feature. In this way you can use up to 20 GPUs in your LAN in every stage, from material creation, Live View editing, to final Picture Viewer or render queue:

beppe,

Thanks for the reply. But, yes, I already have the second license on the second machine. And it is working as a slave in network rendering. That's not what I was wondering.

My question was... is the GTX1080 on my primary machine used in conjunction with the network renderer? Or do I have to set it up a certain way to make sure they are both being used at the same time. Is the local GPU always used by default?

Hi BCres,
ops, sorry for the misunderstanding :)
Yes sure, the GPUs active in the Devices tab are always active and primary for the rendering. After the internal GPUs have started to render, the Master sends to the Slaves the portion to render.
Anyway, you can always check the number of active GPUs and network GPUs in the infobar in both LV and PV.
Happy rendering,

Thanks, beppe. You confirmed my suspicions. And yes the LV shows the 1080 at top and "NetRender 2/2 Slaves: 1" at bottom. So I'm all good now. Thanks again.
