Hey all, C4D Forum seems to be locked for new posts, and I really need help.

Rendering interior scene, cloning Octane lights on the ceiling, and there's a window with a daylight system outside. For some reason render is super noisy between the ceiling and the walls, no matter what I do.

Running a 2x GTX 1080 system / Octane Render C4D V3.05.3 / 2.06 million triangles
I am using DL because Path tracing and PMC is taking way too long. I am rendering an animation at 4K resolution so I can't do 2 hours per frame, need to stay quick, with DL its around 25 minutes/frame. Post production noise reduction helps a bit but I really need to figure this out the best that I can straight out of C4D.

Yes, and I have also read the documentation and FAQ's posts, nothing seems to help. Increasing samples doesn't help. Any tips you can give me? any other information you need to see to help me out?

Spending the your time on everything and testing will help much to understand how works and affects the things. Your render times are crazy long for this kind of scene.

Don't use high poly counts on emissive geometry.
Don't put them under transparent objects.
Use lowres dummy objects for illuminating the scenes.
Increase samples of emissions.
disable caustics by caustic_blur=1 or near.
Check coherent_ratio and other parameters.
Check forum posts for sample scenes and for previous posts about optimisations.

Thank you Aoktar, but any tips on getting rid of that noise while keeping render times decent? We need to render about 2000 frames so really need to stay below 30min per frame.

These are main tips to get better render times and less noise. Always evaluate and change illumination sources to see differences. There's no exact one solution. It can be differ by scenes and objects.
I hope some artist see this topic and post better explanations for you.

Thanks Aoktar, seems like I'm going to have to keep playing with the settings.

As far as ilumination types, what do you mean? IES files? what other type of illumination is available for Octane? Still want to stay with Direct Lighting for quick renders, no PMC or PT.

Yes playing and testing will help much. Here's a very good video for you question. It will explain better than me. It's for V2 but still apliable to V3.

See lighting video.

There is a cheat which seems to reduce noise and render times by 70% but you have to be carefull because it can make your render look flat. I think if you can balance this technique out. It should work.
This technique was aimed at interior scenes and suggested by a user RyanRoye in the Lightwave Plugin forums

Thank you for the input. I was indeed trying to have my walls be emissive, but then the render was looking SUPER bright, even with the emission set to 0.5.

My walls are white, so I can cheat by making them emissive, which I am going to ask, this would be achieved by adding a texture emission to the emission material correct? which is what I am doing. How is the person in the post you suggested doing it if the walls are so dark?

I tried this on the walls and ceiling to get rid of those dark areas, I'll try it again soon and post some pictures. Reducing render times by 70% would be great!
