What I did wrong was the following:
I forgot to remove all other versions of the .cdl64 files from the octane plugin map.
As it did not give me an error on launch I didn't think twice about it (as it does with the demo when you've got multiple files in there)
So that resolved the issue for me, I can now effortlessly swap between workstations again
