Hi,
We are 1 click away from buying 2x 1080gtx together with x2 980 we already got installed.

1. Considering the fact the 980 cards got less GB vram, will the rig be limited to the 980's GB of 6, or will it increase to 8GB of the 1080's?
2. will the mix of 980's and 1080gtx cause any problems or will it work fluidly with octane?
3. i know the 1080ti is getting closer and we dont know the spec 100% yet, do you guys think it will be worth the wait?

Yo

[1] Smallest GPU dictates limit (everything is loaded into all GPUs individually)

[2] No

[3] Wait

I'm going for 4-way 1080. Hope that will run troublefree.

If i havnt misunderstood, the newest cuda core pascal is not fully supported but will work, and run faster when the support is here?

I have a mix of TITAN X, 1080, TITAN Black and TITAN in the same system and all works fine.

In another box there are two 980Ti and two 1080, also no problems.

Buy now and start workin', never wait :0)

hehe good!
I've installed the 4 msi gtx1080 X 8GB which rendered with no problems, but two of the cards are running around 90-95C, so that was abit bad. Maybe take of the backplate will give more room and airflow.

IF you want to go for 3rd party design of GPUs then you can't really stack them without 1 slot appart for airoflow (unless watercooled ofcourse).
so if you wan to slot in 4 GPUs near each other (slots 1,3,5,7) then you need to go with reference design (now called Founders edition) 'coz they pull in air form back of card and not need that much breathing space.

In this case with temps of 90+ C our GPUs are most certainly throttling speed so you could endup having 4 GPUs render at same speed like 3 GPUs with good airflow and overclock.

Ok. I have them down in 85C with backplate off and the case open. I have to watercool or something i guess.

One of the cards is going at 65% speed and rest is around 90% with some peaks. Is this normal? (this is even when the cards are cold.
