So this 2016 has gone and no sign or teaser of 3.1 with all the features announced in April.
Now-.. I'm a little Artist / Producer and I must thanks Otoy ( Refractive when it was so) to raise my interest again in the process of making Photorealistic renderings.
Like many I was on Vray and When I saw OCtane in action , the beautiful image buidling up on my screen I thought..that's it...
Since then I struggled like many in order to master the software and tricks and all you need to be competitive in this ultra-competitive world, I'm not a rich man and need to capitalize and in this game speed is a key factor.
I always preferred the S A than plugin but then I had to stick to Max for stuff like scattering and other plugins that help me in closing a 3D work quickly.. Ototy never failed me until..well .. all went silent in that department.
Still Today we need a PROPER material converter while major forces out there has it almost fully working with a click of a mouse, and that my dear people is USEFUL indeed, after many and many tweaks and tricks I decided again to test 2 GPU agains Octane and I had to adjust so much that start from scracth would have been quicker.
So to cut it short .. I stumbled against a new kid on the block, a young GPU plugin that promise good ( Centileo ) and guess what? it has feature named Noise
Aware Path Tracer (NAPT which I understand is just kind of Adaptive Sampling or Similar to the Fstorm Adaptive Sampling..AND we are still waiting for an ALPHA of 3.1, not even a video teaser NOTHING, and I would like to invest some extramoney into octane BUT if I don't see a promising release I feel that I should look elsewhere leaving me with a bitter taste for my money invested here, I'm not a kid, I understand how difficult it is to gather all your ideas and programming and long testing ect..but you promised to Bring Brigade realtime render speed in OCtane for the 4.0 release which yeah...AMAzing...for when it will happen...now I guess I'm not the only one here..the Adaptive Sampling and a proper Material Converter for all the money spend in models and Materials that need convert manually..well..not much to ask as my test is telling me that I'm behind twice the minutes and quality in my GPU vs OCtane comparison and inside me it burns..because the result is never that noise clean with number of Samples compared to those who already had that important feature implemented.. would be nice to see a Burn/contrast feature in the material/image process OR a chance to load extra LUA ..I mean I feel stucked and now it is more than one year and one year it's a long time.
I really wish to see something tangible coming soon and less words.
3.1 hopes and Rant

Not quiet. It's on 3.05 and lot of improvements done.Vejzovic wrote:It is about time you guys give us some info about development progress of 3.1 and an ETA. It´s been almost a year when you released Octane roadmap and now you are really quiet about it. Don’t ever promise more than you can deliver.

What is on 3.05 that you are referring so that I can take it out of my list, I see many Fixes and some improvements but nothing relate to Material Converter and A S, and what about Multi Texture feature that has been requested so many times.aoktar wrote:Not quiet. We obvioulsy talking about Core function .

The feature roadmap hasn't changed since we announced, but OSL testing is taking months longer than we expected, and pushed 3.1 out into '17.
What we have done is simply moved things in 3.1 that get done ahead of OSL into 3.0.x including the improved rounded edges system. We also have a fully working 3.0 build in AMD, but AMD drives are making it nearly impossible for us to do even a first test release- they have committed to fixing in the next two months.
Headless rendering (i.e. Octane Engine) and AS is also going to ship as soon as they're done, and it may make it into 3.0.x if OSL is still being worked on.

Hi Goldorak and Happy New Year by the time I'm writing.Goldorak wrote:The feature roadmap hasn't changed since we announced, but OSL testing is taking months longer than we expected, and pushed 3.1 out into '17.

So, The AS is not ready yet but you say it may enter the 3.0.x something and released prior to the 3.1 if OSL is ready too..you see.. nobody has a clue of were you people are with progresses on everything you are doing, frankly the news that those at AMD are working to fix their afwul drivers in the next 2 months makes me nervous as I personally NEVER trusted AMD in anything especially Drivers as it is a known fact AMD drivers being shitty since 1.0.. sorry guys with AMD...but that is true..so to make AMD people happy and us in a row we got to wait...well 4 months if things goes well according to them..and test and polish things up...I really hope that the OSL that should eventually give us a new and working material conversion is ready to go sooon.. but again only you knows about it..unless a Single release with 3.1 and 3.0 for AMD ( should this be a side programming in order to avoid usual NVidia customers keep on going with their investment?) is on the plan... It reminds me of the Rhino 4 Mac development that thanks god always been on someone else hands and after 4 Years ( more than that ) they finally got it probably right but without any external plugins...whats the point.

you are so right......amd is sooo pure.justix wrote:Goldorak wrote: I personally NEVER trusted AMD in anything especially Drivers as it is a known fact AMD drivers being shitty since 1.0.. sorry guys with AMD...but that is true...
I dont understood, why we waiting for amd?!!??!
All software use CUDA, so why?
Does Otoy need amd only for Brigade??
But why not support AMD later????

Happy New Year!
AMD made its own free OpenCL render so they must be working on improving their drivers.
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks ... echnology/
About Octane render I think Otoy should have a bit more information about Octane render development or setbacks during development, because usually Otoy keep us in dark without information of when will 3.1 be out and members of this forum becomes grumpy .
I saw news about Octane Imager posted on facebook by Hayssam Keilany but here on forums I didn`t saw any news about that, some users don`t have facebook:
Goldorak why you don`t seat with your plugin developers and see which plugin has best support by developer I think in this area
the best is Aoktar developer of C4d plugin and then make all plugins to match C4D plugin.
Aoktar has in his section of plugin Help / Tutorials section (Tutorials made by Aoktar) that doesn`t exist in 3dsmax section but not only this he listen to his users and he made a lot of addition to C4D plugin that don`t even exist in max plugin.
I use Octane for max and you need to give us better support through best possible material converter and also best possible plugins support, like Forest pack and Rail clone and last but not the least listen to request of your users.
Please Otoy wake up and give us best possible GPU render.

"Hello everyone, OTOY guy here.
I've decided to update everyone about the ICEFX (name subject to changes...) part of the OctaneImager.
"What's this ICEFX thing you're talking about?"
Well, I'll create a proper forum post in the future with pictures but i'll enumerate some features here :
* Colors
-----------
- Customizable tonemapper
- 3D LUT support
- Correct white balance and color temperature
- Fast HDR chromatic aberration (axial & lateral)
- Bleach bypass, Fade, Blacks, Levels...
- Vibrance,saturation,contrast,gamma (classic but necessary)
- HDR Sharpening
- Highlight / Midtones / Shadows color grading (Log & Linear)
- RGB Curves
- Film Grain (because sometimes it's better to just add it than making your render noisy)
- Customizable vignetting
* Artistic
-----------
- Multiple customizable cartoon effects (Painting, drawing, etc)
- Contour effect
- Digital and analog glitch effects (can be animated)
- CRT / VHS / NTSC & more... artifacts creator
- Scanline / ASCII & random effects
- And more...
* Lighting / Camera effects
-------------
- Super fast bloom
- Light streaks (Glare on OctaneRender)
- Anamorphic lens effects
- Customizable Lens Flare
- Lens Dirt effect
- Customizable depth of field (blades, etc)
- Fake fast god-rays (useful for quick terrain)
* Rendering
----
- Real-Time Ambient Occlusion / Indirect lighting
- Real-Time Raytraced reflections
- Customizable artistic fog (Total control)
* Others
---------
- Denoiser (WIP, not sure yet if my approach is worth it)
These are the most important features,
For the Rendering part, I must specify that they will not replace path-tracing at all. They are meant for quick tweaking or fixes and might not be integrated in the end as they were created for real-time purposes (VR/ Mobile and more)
Keep in mind that ICEFX is at first a real-time post-processing solution usable in video games to produce high-quality photorealistic rendering.
Please let me know if i'm missing out an important feature in terms of color or what you guys are used to do in Photoshop/Lightroom/Nuke...
Thank you!"
