I was testing the preparation time for the hair
Using a sphere with hair and frizz, about 500,000 hairs in several engines, and my results have been unsatisfactory respects, at the time of preparation:

AR 00:16 sec
Arnold 00:12 sec
Vray 00:11 sec
Redshift 00:16 sec
Octane 00:47 sec

Increasing hair to 1,000,000
Redshift 00:33 sec
Octane 02:00 sec!

Is there any way to optimize the preparation time? Something extra that needs to be done to improve it, I can not believe that octane is the slowest in this.

any advice?

Have you disabled hair render effect in render settings? Do you check progress messages in status lines?

Updating text means that renderer is preparing geometry for rendering. It's after that plugin finished their job. So there's nothing to accelerate on my side.
My test results are attached. It's not 2min. for 1millions hair. You may have more segments.

Also how do you measured RedShift? It doesn't seems so fast as you said. See next image.

I get similar results but a bit better for Octane on my computer. When you see updating/etc.. this means that plugin finished own job and waiting the process in the renderer. So plugin side is fast as or faster than others. Scene preparation process is always slower for geometries and even hair as we can see.

Also, hair segments (12) is unnecessarily high for the pictured job.
