Hello All,

Does anyone know of a way to achieve this in octane?

http://basic3dtraining.com/truth-ds-iray-hdri-lighting

Obviously, we can use HDRI lighting, but it seems pretty impossible from my fiddling to use it as the background for a scene. Everything is either blurry, distorted, or both. Nothing is scaled correctly, either. This even happens when I'm using an 8k texture, which should be more than enough.

Has anyone else achieved this? Thanks!

You may be selecting the wrong file, I had this issue as well. Sometimes there are a lot of smaller versions and it's easy to get the wrong one. Also be sure you're not using deoht of field ;)
As for scale, that's just life with HDRI's :-/ You have to fiddle with the controls to make it looks as good as possible, but there are a lot of constraints from how the image was shot in the first place.

Hm, thanks, DrH... I'll make sure I'm using the correct file. And I think I am using DoF!

I'll check on that and return with results.

Honestly, the renders that use HDRI look the most realistic to me, so I'm excited to get it to work with Octane.

The HDR image file needs to be loaded into the Environment Texture RGB Image. Octane support lat/long HDR maps - not Spherical.
