I see this is an old post and we are now on octane 3... Would seem to me that perhaps octane should allow greater scaling/depth of bump mapping within cinema 4d?
I get the concept of object scaling and viewing a bump map from too far away but with C4D native renderer I'd be able to adjust bump size and depth so even with a large model scale I'd be able to see the bumps.
I'm using Octane 3 and I can't get any bump detail to show on my objects even with glossy material.
bump maps somehow don`t work

Hi feathers632,
wow, you have resumed a very old discussion
From that time, now we have also normal maps and displacement
In general, the Octane bump is very sensitive and able to show results even with lower values compared with c4d bump, but maybe in some cases is better to use a normal map... it depends from a lot of factors, quality of the map, dimensions, value used, illumination, other material parameters and camera position.
Could you share some screenshot or an example file?
ciao beppe
